Moved by the ruthless killing of school children and other innocent
people in Yobe, Borno State last week, parents and groups of rights
activists on Monday stormed the office of the Lagos state Governor,
Babatunde Fashola to protest the heinous act.
The teeming protesters who are mostly parents under the aegis of
Unity Schools Old Students Association, (USOSA), said the killing of
students of Federal Government College, Yobe State and others who were
slain in the northern region of the country consecutively leave much to
be desired.
The aggrieved parents who staged the protests at the governor’s
office, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, condemned the killing of the 43
students who were killed by Boko Haram sect after attacking Bunu Yadi,
Yobe state.
They said the incidents have plunged the region into a war
situation. The protesters who all dressed in black attire to express
their concern over the continuous killing in the northern region, also
chanted different dirge , urging the Federal Government, State Governors
and the military agencies in the country to end the insurgency.
The protesters brandished placards with the inscription, “Boko
Haram, stop killing our children’, Fashola Speak For the Voiceless “,
Enough of senseless killings,” among others.
As they ruminate on the violent act that has come to define human
existence in the region, each of the protesters held placards bearing
the names of the students who were killed in the Yobe school attack.
Some of the names on their placards were: Peter John, Abbas Ibrahim, Musa Y. Buba, Hamadu Bala, Ali Ayuba and others.
The spokesperson lamented that her child in one Unity school in
Lagos, was already panicking that his school could be attacked by the
Sect.
Receiving the letter brought by the protesters for onward transfer
to President Goodluck Jonathan, Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde
Fashola assured residents of the state of adequate security of lives and
property.
